Live, From Golden, Colo., It’s Al-Jazeera
By Dana Milbank

Al-Jazeera’s presence wasn’t appreciated by some residents, including James Morris, left. Golden’s mayor at first invited the Al-Jazeera crew to a cookout, then withdrew the offer.
GOLDEN, Colo., Aug. 27 Deep divisions, bad feelings. Tensions that threaten to boil over during this week’s gathering in Colorado.
The Obama-Clinton feud at the Democratic National Convention? Well, yes, but that’s happening 13 miles to the east of here, in Denver. The fight in Golden is between the townsfolk of this quaint Western hamlet and al-Jazeera English, which is trying to broadcast from here during the convention.
It started innocently enough: Qatar-based al-Jazeera decided it would film the locals in Golden, the home of Coors beer, as they watched the convention from a biker bar Wednesday night. This would allow al-Jazeera’s viewers to see Bill Clinton and Joe Biden through the eyes of those in a small American town that could pass as a set for a Hollywood Western.
City leaders at first offered to host a pork-free barbecue for the Jazeera crew, then abandoned that plan when angry residents protested. But the Buffalo Rose, a 150-year-old saloon here catering to bikers, offered to let al-Jazeera broadcast from its bar.
The result: a sort of 21st-century shootout at the O.K. Corral on Wednesday night under the shadow of Lookout Mountain, where Buffalo Bill is buried.
Word spread that three rival biker gangs — the Sons of Silence, the Banditos and the Hell’s Angels — declared a truce for the night so they could meet at the Buffalo Rose in a united protest against al-Jazeera. But the network stood its ground and set up its cameras.
Across the street from the bar, two dozen protesters under the watchful eye of a statue of Adolph Coors waved American flags, blew air horns and revved motorcycle engines. “Al Jazeera is terrorism,” announced one sign. “Go home, Al Jazeera — Voices for al Qaeda and bin Laden,” proclaimed another. The protesters had shirts printed up for the occasion, saying “Buffalo Rose/Tokyo Rose” in English and Arabic, although they botched the Arabic translation.
One biker covered his T-shirt in thoughtful, handwritten messages, such as “Islam Sucks” and “Al-Jazeera: Anti-American Pond Scum.”
“Al-Jazeera is the No. 1 propaganda machine for the enemies we fight,” growled Mick Woodworth, a Navy veteran of the Iraq war. “They support terrorism,” he said, and the mostly American al-Jazeera crew in Golden “are traitors to the United States of America.”
Across the street, a smaller group of Golden residents lined up in a counterprotest. A bunch of right-wing fanatics, grumbled one. Buffalo Rose owner Murray Martinez, a biker himself with long hair and a chin beard, folded his arms across his chest. “They think I’m bringing in terrorists to launch a jihad in the little town of Golden,” he scoffed.
The Golden police manned the rooftops around the bar. Inside the bar, the al-Jazeera crew sat idly while the overhead television flashed scenes of the Democratic convention, where Barack Obama was being nominated for president by acclamation. Nobody was watching.
The regulars at Buffalo Rose took the Qatari invasion, and the demonstration, in stride. “Al-Jazeera? Is he here? Where is he?” inquired Travis Henry, sipping a Bud Light.
Golden, a gold-rush town of 18,000, was a too-good-to-be-true locale for al-Jazeera. Across the main drag in town is an arch announcing: “Howdy Folks!” The smell of brewing beer is in the air, and a large sculpture of a buffalo stands outside the Buffalo Rose.
The leader of this would-be terrorist cell: al-Jazeera’s Josh Rushing, a Texas-born Marine veteran who wears blue jeans and cowboy boots. “I guess you could call it a mild jihad for the truth,” said Rushing, sipping a latte. Wearily, he added, “This isn’t the first time this kind of thing has happened.”
Al-Jazeera, like Fox News, bills itself as a straight-news outlet, but others, including the Bush administration, accuse it of an anti-American bias; it also seems to have first dibs on all of Osama bin Laden’s videotapes when al-Qaeda chooses to release them.
City Manager Mike Bestor, before he rescinded his barbecue offer, called the al-Jazeera visit a way to “show Arab viewers what Americans are like.” For better or worse, Golden seems to be doing just that.
Townsfolk raised such objections at last week’s city council meeting that the city manager rescinded the barbecue offer, but others rushed to the network’s defense, including Steve Stevens, who wrote to a local e-mail list offering to host the al-Jazeera barbecue: “My home is (1) a zero carbon home; (2) a Museum of Net Zero Carbon Transportation; (3) a Victorian Bicycle Museum . . . I will cook the Bar-B-Que in the 2 Solar Ovens.”
“I’m welcoming to any international visitors coming to visit us in peace,” explained Stevens, wearing Uncle Sam attire and riding one of his Victorian bicycles outside of Buffalo Rose.
But that wasn’t the majority view Wednesday night in downtown Golden.
Inside the Buffalo Rose, the Al-Jazeera crew was filming the locals watching Bill Clinton’s convention speech. Outside, Woodworth, the Navy veteran, circled the block in a pickup truck, honking the horn and trailing an American flag.
A man with dark skin drove by and looked curiously at the fracas. “Go back to your own country,” a biker shouted at him.
Buffalo Rose owner Martinez, who said he received death threats for hosting Al-Jazeera, responded by tacking the First Amendment to a pillar outside the bar and directing his staff to wear the “Buffalo Rose/Tokyo Rose” T-shirts the protesters made.
“They’re doing it strictly on emotion,” he said as he watched the flag-wavers across the street. “They only support the First Amendment for people who see things their way.” Martinez said something else, but a protester’s air horn drowned out the words.

August 27, 2008 at 6:38 pm Yet another excellent article Mark.
Next time I run into Mr Pike at a Barnes Review Truth Convention, I will have a talksie with this brother.
I know a lot of folks like Pike. Good on one subject – THE ADL (All Defecation League) but wrong on other parralel tracks.
Sometimes when we fight the same beast, we are most familiar with the one branchm the one tentacle, but dont have a good clear overview of the whole collasal Octopus killing us all.
My friends in Poker Face, ( http://www.pokerface.com ) face similar attitudes from some so called freedom groups like Free State Project. This group is too sensitized to racial sensitivity that this group no longer acts FREELY at the FSP board level. Thus they have shown themselves to be another compromised organization by the Jews with in the FSP organization, by ostracizing those that say at least 80% of the same thing but there intolerance to their perceived differences keeps them from embracing others that tell the truth about the Jews, but they dont have the stomach to learn the truth.
That is our dilemma in the future Revolution that is coming.
We love the Whole truth and nothing bu the Truth. All others will be looked upon as suspect/ignorant if they speak half truth.
peace be with

I refer to the following often. I think it answers a lot of questions:
Prof. MacDonald believes that because of the effectiveness of some Jews, it was not even necessary that most Jews actively support anti-majoritarian movements, but that Jewish activity was still decisive. As he puts it, “Jewish-dominated intellectual movements were a critical factor (necessary condition) for the triumph of the intellectual left in late twentieth-century Western societies.” This, of course, can never be tested, but there can be no doubt that
American Jews have had a disproportionate effect on the American intellect. Prof. MacDonald quotes Walter Kerr, writing in 1968, to the effect that “what has happened since World War II is that the American sensibility has become part Jewish, perhaps as much Jewish as it is anything else… The literate American mind has come in some measure to think Jewishly.”

You’d think Pike of any, would understand this M.O.
August 27, 2008 at 7:10 pm Mark,
Do you have a piece written where you debunk the Zionist slanted half truths about Islam point by point? If you do I would love to post it on my web site as I have been guilty myself of believing this misinformation and want to see your view point.
Thanks!

Thank you, you brought tears to my eyes. You are one in a million.
I was very upset when I read Rev. Pike’s article and couldn’t bring myself to forward a rebuttal to him. Most Americans, no matter how intelligent and how well read, are still narrow-minded and stubborn as hell when it comes to fully understand Islam even if we explained over and over again what Islam is about. I guess ignorance is a virtue to them – for as long as they remain ignorant , they have the excuse to be adamant in demonizing Islam and Muslims.
August 27, 2008 at 8:17 pm Find a non-zionist “Christian.” It’s like finding a non-zionist Jew. They’re virtually non existent. At least Muslims for the most part know what zionism is… and the truth about it. On the other hand, most of the “Judeo-Christians” get their information filtered by their zionist media lords have not a clue what zionism is. It could be a new flavor of ice cream for all they know. I like to be with people that are cognizant of the truth. Ted worries too much about what deniers of truth and liars think. It’s time to start talking truth and leave the liars to themselves.
August 27, 2008 at 8:25 pm Mark,
Very good article and believe it or not I am on your side. My position or side is not necessarily of a right or wrong from a religious nature but a right or wrong from a criminal nature. According to the U.S. Constitution Americans, in their Duty in Citizenship, are the Judge of crime and criminals. Americans are not the judge of religion and the U.S. governments are by Law (Constitution) forbidden any jurisdiction in any religion. God is a big boy and does not need man or man’s government to do his thing.
It is a sad state of affairs when Americans support the U.S. government’s criminal acts; especially when those Americans associate those criminal acts with their religion. Revilo P. Oliver said Christianity was a disease of the brain; supporting a criminal government must be at least a part of what he meant.
The U.S government, Congress particularly, has funded and armed Israel of 60 years which is a crime against every American and no doubt the world. All federal Bills for appropriating funds must start in the House (Congress). No doubt Israel (Jews) controls Congress but do not Hire (elect) a single Congressman, only a majority of Americans elect Congressmen and elect them every two years.
It appears changing American’s mind about either religion or the Constitution is a losing battle but I appreciate your efforts, keep on trying.

August 27, 2008 at 8:37 pm Judith Sharpe hits it right on the head in her comment citing professor MacDonald. Due to the fact that Jewish people are very prominent/if not dominant in the realm of ideas, most americans now do without even realizing it tend to as she says “think Jewishly”. It is really unavoidable when you think about it. Their worldviews are projected on the U.S. like a 24 hour sprinkler system on a closed golf course. If you control the media/realm of ideas, you control what people think/know, and ultimately their behavior. I am just worried that we are headed for further unnecessary conflict in the Middle East in which more innocent American citizens will go off to fight and die for a country that is our supposed “ally”. I am worried that the peace movement at this point is virtually a lost cause
August 27, 2008 at 9:58 pm Excellent and informative article, Mark. Thanks for another job well-done! Those of us in this war for truth know your feelings of frustration, and you have our sympathy and support. I’m pleased that those who have commented so far on this article have pointed out some crucial truths. Judith really nails it when she says what I’ve come to know long ago – that the USA is both led by, and following, a Jewish ethos – and most Americans would never know it. Their brains have been turned to manure by decades of Jewish television, duped “goy” politicians and academians and preachers, and mind-manipulating garbage they pass off as “news.” Americans wear Jewish-imposed blinders that keep them from seeing anything but the Jewish version of events. Their tunnel vision will be the death of this nation. Thousands of anti-Islamic messages flood the communications media and internet daily. These messages are formulated by our eternal enemies, and devoured as “gospel” by naive and gullible Americans. I reply to some that are sent to me; they all have the same theme – that Islam hates us and wants to destroy us because of our “freedoms” or because we are “Christian.” What I remind them of is this: It is NOT the Muslim who controls my country’s money supply, institutions, electronic media, politicians, churches, and academia. It is NOT the Muslim who determines what we read, see, and hear – thus also determining what we THINK and forming our opinions. It is NOT the Muslim; it is the JEW, and those “Zionist Christians” who worship at the feet of the very cancer that is destroying them (all of us!) and our progeny. Until we can make headway in getting this truth accepted and adopted by our countrymen, we cannot make but minute gains, if that, in this WAR for SURVIVAL.
Thank you, Mark, and all who are at least TRYING. Keep battling. The future is going to vindicate our efforts on behalf of TRUTH.

August 28, 2008 at 12:18 am Reverend Pike is correct. The Quran is full of terrible quotes. For example, verse 2:115 “To God belong the East and the West, and whithersoever ye turn, there is the Face of God.” Imagine that, the Quran teaches that God is omnipresent. What blasphemy.
Even worse quotes can be found in Chapter 19 of the Quran which is named after Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Imagine naming a chapter in a holy book after her! In verse 20, having been informed by the Angel Gabriel that she is to have a pure son she asks him how that is possible for she has never been with a man. The Quran then says that Gabriel told her “Your Lord says it is easy for me.” My goodness, the Quran is here presenting its view that the virgin birth is true. How awful. And there are so, so many more examples.
Guess it’s just better to read about Jesus in the Talmud.
August 28, 2008 at 12:19 am Dear Mark:
You have presented your position in a very correct, cogent, appropriate and brilliant manner so as to appeal to the heart, mind and soul of all men of good will. As a fervent Catholic descendant of Saints and Cardinals, I will continue to pray for the continued success of the combined efforts of you and Mr. Tillawi.
God Bless ,

August 28, 2008 at 3:19 am Muhammad Rafeeq wrote that Ted Pike has such remarks as:. “9/11, carried out by Muslim hijackers, … he promotes the official lie of 9/11 in which Arab terrorists attack us, etc.
This always did bother me about Pike that he supports the Government lies on 9/11.
Speaking of 9/11 here is some new information that recently was presented to us.

Real 9/11 researchers continue to show that Israel was the real culprits behind 9/11. Why Ted Pike can’t see this should reveal something to the rest of us!
August 28, 2008 at 4:18 am Dear Mark,
I agree with you. There is a lot of disinformation about Muslim people. Many Christians have fallen for it. That Rev. Ted Pike has, surprises me. In general he seems so well informed. I have a high regard for him. As you said, he is a brave and valiant soldier of the faith. It’s too bad. It may take some time, but it is my hope that your conversation with him will prompt him to reflect on this matter.
