Kyrgyzstan; Russia swaps Dastan Torpdeo Plant for Kyrgyzgaz

Russia is forgiving Kyrgyzstan’s debt. In return, the Kyrgyzstan government will allow Gazprom to gain control of Kyrgyzgaz, the Kyrgyzstan state-owned gas company, and the Russian government to acquire part ownership of the Dastan torpedo plant. The plant manufactures the Shkval high-speed torpedo. Russia will write off Kyrgyzstan’s $180 million debt in exchange for 49 percent of the Dastan plant and 75 percent of Kyrgyzgaz.

Mass murder committed in Almaty region

Taldykorgan. August 15. Kazakhstan Today – Eleven dead bodies have been found in the Ili-Alatau National Park in the Almaty region, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan said on Tuesday.All the victims had multiple stab wounds. Police have identified six of the eleven victims.As reported before, eight dead bodies were found in the Ili-Alatau National Park in the Almaty region on Monday. Two dead bodies of a man and a woman were found 30 km from the Tausamaly village in the National Park in the forester’s house and its yard. Also, 2 km from the crime scene bodies of another woman and two men were found. Then, the National Park employees reported that 25 km away from the scene in a nearby forest farm house was burning. After fire containment two unidentified burnt bodies were found. Just this morning police found another body – a man of European nationality. Two cars were also found – Nissan Patrol and VAZ 21213

A criminal case is initiated under Part 2 of Article 96 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. There are several versions that are being tested during the search operations.

Kazakhstan Security Forces Kill Nine Extremists Near Almaty

Kazakh security forces killed nine people suspected of planning terror attacks in a shootout in the Almaty region, the Prosecutor General’s Office said.

The suspects opened fire after refusing to surrender to a special-forces unit that located them in the countryside, the Astana-based prosecutor’s office said today in a statement. One officer was wounded in the attack.

Kazakh security forces suspect the extremists were involved in a bomb blast in the Almaty region in July 11. The authorities are identifying the bodies, according to the statement.

President Nursultan Nazarbayev last month said the population of Kazakhstan, the second-largest former Soviet republic, is growing “angry” at law enforcement for failing to keep extremists in check.

“Radical elements are exerting severe pressure on the state and society as a whole,” Nazarbayev said.
