Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has stated that he was questioned regarding the Syria and Middle East policies and said, “Those involved will first account to God, secondly to the nation and thirdly to history and to noone else.”
Davutoglu said at an AK Party Izmir Provincial Youth Branches meeting on Sunday that the Mediterranean was the cradle of civilizations and they wanted to re-build the Mediterranean.
He called on the youth to take care of the 2071 target and said, “I think of how I will answer to my grandfathers who were martyred in Sarikamis and in Palestine before I go to sleep. We don’t have to account for anything regarding our title. We will only answer to God.”
“We all have to produce strong arguments with common minds. The opposition shouldn’t bring down criticism to insult and should indeed show a way of doing things,” said Davutoglu.
Stating that Izmir and the Mediterranean shared a common fate regarding their history, Davutoglu said the fate of the Mediterranean was being re-drawn and Turkey had to read this change carefully.
Davutoglu reminded Turkey’s target of being among the strongest states and said, “Who will be the other nations? It is definite that one would be America. China, Russia, India, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Japan… How will we be one of them? We have history, geography and people. Then we have to grow our geography via our people’s action.”
Davutoglu stated that Turkey either had to grow or it would be stuck with the conflicts within itself and said that their aim was to keep the bar high.
Davutoglu also added that they were working on Izmir’s EXPO 2020 candidacy as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
