Massacre At Khan al-Assal Carried-Out To Eliminate Witnesses To Previous Rebel Chem Weapons Attack

A political expert says the recent massacre in the Syrian town of Khan al-Assal was a Western-backed measure to cover up the militants’ use of chemical weapons there back in March, Press TV reports.

In an article published on Press TV’s website on Thursday, Finian Cunningham said the evidence on the ground in Khan al-Assal had to be erased to prevent “grave criminal implications for Western governments and their covert involvement in Syria’s 30-month-old conflict.”

Cunningham cited reports revealing that the Western-backed al-Qaeda-linked militants had been found in possession of the nerve agent sarin on Turkish soil. He also quoted a June Washington Post report on a US military program in Jordan aimed at training the Jordanian military in the handling of chemical weapons.

Cunningham said the reports about the militants’ activities in southern Turkey and Jordan in cooperation with the CIA and British MI6 indicate that “chemical weapons are part of the arsenal that the Western governments and their regional allies have been furnishing their proxy paramilitaries with inside Syria.”

He pointed to a Russian investigation that found Western-backed militants were behind the March chemical attack, which prompted the UN investigators to meet with Syrian authorities, where they promised a forthcoming in-depth investigation.

Cunningham explained that such an investigation would have involved collecting samples and interviewing witnesses in Khan al-Assal about what happened during the attack on March 19, and would have most likely agreed with the Russian study, which found anti-Syria militants behind the mass murder.

This, the expert said, confirms that Western-sponsored terror groups have been using these weapons with the full or tacit knowledge of Western governments and their military agencies.

“Given this potentially damning picture that was forming around Khan al-Assal, it is not implausible that Western-backed death squads were dispatched on the town last weekend in a desperate attempt to exterminate any remaining witnesses to the first massacre with chemical weapons,” he proposed.

“For the Western sponsors of genocide in Syria, the stakes could not have been higher on that particular truth coming out. That is why the truth had to be massacred,” Cunningham concluded.

In late July, armed terrorist groups killed at least 123 people, mostly civilians but also including military personnel, during an attack on Khan al-Assal, in Aleppo Governorate. They mutilated the corpses, throwing them into a crater outside town and incinerated the bodies of a number of other victims.

Up to 30 people were killed and some 100 others were also seriously injured on March 19, when the town was hit by a chemical attack that involved the deadly nerve agent, sarin.

The massacre came as Western powers and their regional allies – including the Israeli regime, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar – continue to support militant groups, including al-Qaeda-linked terrorists, in Syria.

The Arab country has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. The UN says more than 100,000 people have been killed and millions of others displaced in the violence.

U.N. Rights Chief Urges Probe into Syria Executions

U.N. rights chief Navi Pillay called Friday for a probe into the reported mass execution by rebels of Syrian soldiers taken captive in fighting in the north of the country this week.

Pillay said the events during fighting for control of the town of Khan al-Assal in the northern province of Aleppo were “deeply shocking”.

Video footage shot by rebels and information provided by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights suggest dozens of members of regime forces were executed.

“There needs to be a thorough independent investigation to establish whether war crimes have been committed. And those responsible for such crimes should be brought to justice,” Pillay said.

“Based on the analysis by my team to date, we believe armed opposition groups in one incident — documented by a video — executed at least 30 individuals, the majority of whom appeared to be soldiers,” she said.

She added that the material gathered by her office suggested the overall toll in the Khan al-Assal battle was much higher.

The world’s attention has focused mainly on massacres committed by President Bashar Assad’s regime since a popular uprising broke out against his rule in March 2011.

The protests soon evolved into a fully-fledged civil conflict, with jihadist foreign fighters taking a leading role in the rebellion, and Pillay warned the latest executions were evidence that abuses were being committed on both sides.

“Opposition forces should not think they are immune from prosecution. They must adhere to their responsibilities under international law,” she said.

Hizbullah Chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in Televised Speech Marking Quds Day

Nasrallah: They are seeking to remove the Shiites of the Arab and Islamic worlds from the equation.

Nasrallah: We thank the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic for all they are doing for Palestine and we will remain a vigilant and alert resistance to protect our country alongside the national Lebanese army and we send a big salutation to its command, officers, soldiers and wounded.

Nasrallah: Whatever the doctrinal, religious or political dispute might be, Palestine must remain the main cause.

Nasrallah: We in Hizbullah will keep supporting Palestine and we’re keen on good ties with all the Palestinian forces, although we might have our differences sometimes over Syria and Palestine.

Nasrallah: We in Hizbullah stress our commitment to these principles, for which our enemies and sometimes our friends criticize us.

Nasrallah: Our people are capable of defeating this scheme and God willing it will be defeated.

Nasrallah: Where will this madness lead everyone? This is the responsibility of all the scholars and for the sake of the entire nation efforts must unite to defeat this destructive scheme.

Nasrallah: In Hizbullah, we have always and will continue to seek common denominators and to organize and postpone our differences, because the disputes have become destructive.

Nasrallah: We call on everyone to realize the threats and exert strenuous efforts in every country to resolve its issue through dialogue and halt the bloodshed, in Syria, Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Pakistan and Somalia. Unfortunately, wherever these Takfiri groups go, there will be disasters.

Nasrallah: Anyone backing the Takfiri groups ideologically, financially and in the media and anyone pushing them to the battlefields bears the first responsibility for all the ongoing destruction.

Nasrallah: Isn’t it time for the peoples of the region to point their fingers at the countries that are sponsoring this destructive, spiteful scheme, which is the most dangerous scheme our region has witnessed.

Nasrallah: Isn’t it time for the peoples of the region to realize that some parties are seeking to destroy the region and its countries, armies and peoples. They don’t only want to fragment the nations but also to fragment the peoples into sects.

Nasrallah: In Egypt, there is an acute political rift, but it is political and not sectarian. The same applies to Yemen, Tunisia and Libya. But when it comes to countries that have diversity, such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Bahrain, the political conflict is turned into a sectarian conflict and they invoke the conflicts of history.

Nasrallah: What’s worse than this is that they gave some local conflicts a sectarian nature.

Nasrallah: They then used the so-called Shiite expansion and said the priority is confronting the Shiite threat because it poses a greater threat to the nation than the Zionist scheme. To many, Israel is not a threat and an enemy anymore.

Nasrallah: Armies were equipped to fight Iran and satellite TV networks were established. Guarantees were given to the U.S. that every tank obtained by the Arab states would not be used against Israel.

Nasrallah: Unfortunately, some in the Arab world who are backed by the states and governments of the West are blocking and preventing this priority and are pushing peoples to endorse other priorities and are inventing new wars. First they spoke of the communist expansion and Palestine was forgotten and they spent billions and came up with books, conference and wars. Then they invented the Iranian and Persian expansion and a war that cost billions was waged against Iran. Had they spent only one tenth on Palestine, it would have been liberated.

Nasrallah: All the massacres and plights that we suffered in Lebanon and the region can be attributed to abandoning the priorities and responsibilities.

Nasrallah: We must highlight the priority of this conflict with the Zionist scheme in Lebanon, Syria and Jerusalem.

Nasrallah: Accordingly, anyone who stands in the face of the Zionist scheme anywhere in our region and through any means, would be defending his country, people and the future of his children and grandchildren, in addition to defending Palestine.

Nasrallah: Israel poses a threat to Jordan and its demise is a national Jordanian interest, it poses a threat to Lebanon and Israel’s demise is a national Lebanese interest.

Nasrallah: The removal of the usurper entity is in the interest of the entire Islamic world and the entire Arab world and it is also a national interest for every country in the region.

Nasrallah: Israel poses a grave and permanent threat to all the states and peoples of this region and its capabilities, security, dignity, safety and sovereignty, and anyone who denies that would be practicing obstinacy. Therefore, it is not only an existential threat to Palestine’s people, but also to all the peoples and civilizations of the region.

Nasrallah: Entire Palestine, from the sea to the river, must return to its people. No one in the world, no king, prince, Sayyed, leader, president or state has the right to give up a single grain of sand of Palestine’s land.

Nasrallah: Today, on August 2, 2013, we critically need to commemorate the occasion, and I thank all of you for heeding the call of Imam Khomeini.

Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivering a speech in Dahieh on the occasion of Quds Day: This call was reiterated by Imam Khamenei and it aims to remind Muslims and the world of the Palestinian cause and to rescue Jerusalem from the hands of the Zionist occupiers and it is an occasion to shed light on what Palestine and its people are suffering from the siege, Judaization, starvation and the demolition of holy sites.

Is Bandar Bush In Moscow Trying To Sell Putin His Plan To Cannabalize the Syrian Resistance?

[If Bandar really met with Putin, then why no customary photo, like the one Bandar took with Medvedev?  Perhaps there was some disfigurement resulting from the recent bomb attack?  What was on Bandar Bush’s mind on this secret mission to Moscow?  It is too late to try buying-off Putin to abandon the Syrians.  The recent progress of the Syrian Army against the “Free Syrian Army” in the north has caused panic in the Obama/Abdullah/Netanyahu troika.  Bandar was dispatched to Moscow to buy time from Putin for his Islamist al-Nusra/al-Qaeda front to work their bloody magic in the south.  Since the new mission of the Nusra army is obviously to mop-up the failed FSN forces, then he may be trying to persuade Putin of the logic of allowing his men time to eliminate thousands of Syrian terrorists, probably sweetening the deal with billions of petrodollars thrown-in.  Since Putin is obviously concerned with avoiding a major regional war in the Middle East, then he will probably cooperate to some degree with whatever Bandar is asking, which means what exactly?]

Israeli ‘9/11 costume’ inspires conspiracy theory in Iran

Unique, if inappropriate, Purim costume resembling 2001 terror attack on World Trade Center has Iranian media atwitter

Yaron Drukman

A unique, if somewhat inappropriate, costume made for seven-year-old twins has sparked an Iranian conspiracy theory. An article written by Dr. Kevin Barrett and published Saturday on the state-run Iranian Press TV website, claims that this was expression of Israeli joy regarding the successes of the September 11 attacks.

The article, titled “Israel celebrates successful 9/11 operation on Purim holiday,” stressed that the costume, which depicts the two al-Qaeda hijacked planes as they crashed into the World Trade Center in New York; proved the success of “Zionist scheme.”

The author compared Purim, which he called “a strange holiday,” to the September 11, 2001 attacks: “Purim exalts and commemorates an ancient operation very much like 9/11. It glorifies the deceptions of Esther, who concealed her Jewish identity to seduce the King of Persia, then slyly tricked him into slaughtering 75,000 people deemed ‘enemies of the Jews,'” wrote Barrett.

Barrett, a lecturer at the University of Wisconsin and a radioman, further compared, writing: “In other words, Purim celebrates Jews lying, secretly penetrating the highest levels of government, and manipulating the leaders of an empire into mass-murdering perceived ‘enemies of the Jewish people.'”

He added that if Israeli is successful in its scheme to cause the US to attack Iran, or cause the outbreak of WWIII, modern Queen Esthers will not only cause the death of millions, but rather even hundreds of millions will lose their lives in the war.

Barrett, who is no newcomer to anti-Israeli article writing, also said that, “The Israeli schoolchildren dressed up as the burning Twin Towers are not the first Zionists to wildly celebrate Israel‘s biggest-ever attack on America.

“That honor belongs to the ‘dancing Israelis,’ five Mossad spies who set up their cameras in Liberty State Park, across the harbor from the World Trade Center, early in the morning of September 11, 2001, and pointed those cameras at the as-yet-undamaged Twin Towers.” He also noted that this footage has not yet been publicized.

He continued with the conspiracy theory, saying that the Israelis rejoiced when the planes hit the towers. “They began leaping, cavorting, and high-fiving each other. As the Towers burned, the ‘dancing Israelis’ took pictures of each other holding up burning cigarette lighters in front of the burning Towers.

“And when the Towers were blasted to powder in explosive controlled demolitions, the ‘dancing Israelis’ went crazy with joy. Their plan had succeeded,” he said.

The Iranian talkbackers bought the bait. Some of them wrote that Iran must prepare itself for an attack, others attacked Israel and the Zionists.
