Officials confirmed six terrorists on death row were executed by hanging at Pul-e-Charkhi prison in Kabul on Sunday morning on President Ashraf Ghani’s orders.
This comes after Ghani’s speech two weeks ago where he said he would implement the death penalty against terrorists on death row following last month’s deadly attack in Kabul that killed 64 people and wounded over 340.
According to a source, the terrorists executed were on death row for various attacks, including the attack on Finest supermarket in Kabul six years ago [Talib Jan, Mohammed Khan–editor]; the assassination of Berhanuddin Rabbani, the head of the high peace council, five years ago [Rahmatllah Wahidyar]; an attack in Qargha four years ago [Haqqani network]; the assassination of Abdullah Laghmani, deputy head of the national directorate of security (NDS) seven years ago; an attack on an army hospital five years ago and a bombing in Paktia seven years ago.
A source confirmed that those executed were Taliban and Haqqani Network members. No further details were released.
