10,000 kg of used syringe seized, 15 docs booked
Fifteen doctors have been booked under various provisions of Indian Penal Code by Ahmedabad city police.
No formal arrests have been made so far, but the doctors may be arrested after investigation.
PTI adds: The district health officials also raided godowns of scrap dealers across the city and sealed five godowns from where large quantity of used syringes, needles and bio-medical waste were found.
According to health officials, these scrap dealers used to purchase used syringes and biomedical waste from those dealers in hepatitis-hit Modasa town, who were booked on Wednesday night by the police.
“We have sealed five godowns, which contained large quantity of bio-medical waste, used syringes and needles,” Chief District Health Officer (CDHO), Ahmedabad, Dr R R Vaidya
said.
“Three godowns have been sealed in Saijpur Bogha area and two in Asarwa area,” Vaidya said, adding that the owners of the godown are being questioned, and they are in the process of filing an FIR.
He said that the operation was jointly carried out by district health officials, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials and police.
